Buckeye Belle is an older hybrid (not quite an heirloom) that was introduced in 1956 and proudly bred in the USA by the great breeder Walter Mains. It’s fantastic if you are looking for an early bloomer! Its flowers boast dark chestnut red petals and striking gold stamen. It has quickly become a favorite in our country and has racked up multiple awards:

  • APS Award of Landscape Merit (2009): This award recognizes the variety's superior performance in the garden, including its vigorous growth and strong stems.

  • APS Gold Medal (2010): A coveted award that celebrates the peony's exceptional overall qualities.

  • Peony of the Year (2011): This title solidified its status as an industry standard and garden favorite.

Planting Requirements: Plant 1-2 inches deep with the roots down and the crown facing the sky. The hole should be large enough to fit the root system and about 5 times the width of the crown. Cover, water, and add a layer of mulch. Plant in the fall/winter.
